Mental Health and Wellbeing

At JFS, we are committed to a whole-school approach to wellbeing, ensuring that students, staff, and parents feel supported. We strive to embed a culture of wellbeing throughout the school, helping students build resilience, confidence, and a strong sense of positive mental health.

Our Mental Health and Wellbeing Lead, along with our two qualified counsellors, play a key role in supporting students’ emotional and mental wellbeing. They provide professional guidance, personalised support, and a range of interventions to help students navigate a variety of Social, Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH) challenges.

As well as in-school counselling, we offer a range of support, including:

  • A strong peer mentoring programme, with over 50 Year 12 students trained in Mental Health First Aid, supporting Key Stage 3 students.

  • A staff mentoring team providing tailored support for students in Key Stages 4 and 5.

  • We work closely with JAMI, whose Mental Health and Wellbeing practitioners support both students and families, as well as Brent Mental Health and Wellbeing Services, who provide specialist interventions.

  • We work with a life coach who also helps students develop confidence, resilience, and self-awareness.

  • Time to Talk, a drop-in space available Monday to Thursday at lunchtime in Y109, led by Miss Krieger offering a safe place to relax and chat.

  • An opportunity to take part in a variety of different small group workshops e.g. exam stress, friendships and anxiety

Through PSHCE lessons and assemblies, we educate students on mental health and wellbeing, equipping them with essential tools to manage their emotional and social development. With safeguarding support in place, we ensure that all students feel safe, supported, and cared for.
