Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance

At JFS we are committed to providing outstanding CEIAG; where all students are provided with high quality impartial careers education, advice, information and guidance in order to help them make a well informed decision about their future after each key stage.

This will be in line with the 8 Gatsby Benchmarks of Good Careers Guidance, which are:
1. A stable careers programme
2. Learning from career and labour market information
3. Addressing the needs of each pupil
4. Linking curriculum learning to careers
5. Encounters with employers and employees
6. Experiences of workplaces
7. Encounters with further and higher education
8. Personal guidance

We have a full programme of careers education, which helps students to develop the skills and knowledge to better understand themselves, be able to research the opportunities that are available to them and to make decisions which will support them in moving on to the next stage.
All students will:
-
Develop a deeper understanding of themselves and their abilities
-
Gain a greater knowledge of the range of opportunities open to them
-
Take part in work related activities in and out of school
-
Understand current labour market information, trends and expectations of employers
-
Learn to make decisions wisely about their future, based on being well informed
-
Be supported through key transition periods
-
Learn how to improve their own employability: how to find work, how to get work and how to progress their careers
We work closely with JFS Alumni who provide students with a wonderful insight into the work of work through work experience placements, employer talks and by attending our annual Careers Fair.
One to one guidance meetings and group work sessions are delivered by our external Careers Adviser from The Shaw Trust, Disha Dansingani and include information on the full range of Post 16 and Post 18 education and training options, including apprenticeships and other vocational pathways. Parent Information Evenings are held throughout the academic year to ensure that parents are up to date with the provision on offer in school and how we are supporting their child through the key stages of education.
