JFS School Notices 03/09/21
I am sure that students are delighted to be starting back at school and that their parents are also relieved that we are returning to a more normal type of schooling. Gavin Williamson has made it clear that he wants students to experience an education similar to pre-pandemic days. Consequently, we are doing our best to deliver this whilst at the same time being mindful that COVID-19 is still with us. We will continue to ask students to wash and sanitise their hands, to social distance and to avoid close contact with others, wherever possible, and we will strive to ensure that classrooms are well ventilated.
Of course the first three weeks are pleasantly interrupted with Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur and Succot and I wish you and your families a Happy New Year and Chag Sameach. This period gives all of us an opportunity to reflect on new beginnings and our aspirations for the future. Rest assured I will be doing my upmost to support all aspects of the Jewish life of the school.
I was impressed, when meeting today, our new Year 7s who were beautifully attired and ready to learn. They were supported by ‘peer buddies’ who set an excellent example and looked after them. We hope new students will all settle in well and I look forward to meeting Year 7 parents on Monday 4th October. Please do not hesitate to get in touch via firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any concerns or information that you want to pass on.
All our students will be receiving a Journal within a few days, in which they will record their homework. I ask all parents to check and sign it weekly to indicate they have checked their child’s homework. It is helpful if students have a quiet place to work in the evenings, however, it is important that children are overseen to ensure they are using their time appropriately.
We are of course addressing, with rigour, all the points outlined in the recent Ofsted report and will be working to ensure standards in the school are on-track to be outstanding. Thank you for your trust and confidence and the many kind wishes I have received.
Mrs Thomas is organising some parent forum meetings, the first of which will be on Wednesday 13th October. I have some questions that I would like to direct at parents that will help me to work with the governors to improve the school. If you are able to attend, please send you name to email@example.com. it may be necessary to pick names at random if there are too many responses. Please note, I do not want this to be a complaints forum but to come up with some constructive suggestions.

Congratulations to Belle Briski in Year 7, who is the winner of our Rosh Hashanah card design competition.
The many entries we received were of a very high standard, making it extremely difficult to judge! Well done all.
