JFS School Notices 08/10/21
Having enjoyed our first full week, the Shabbat rest will be much more appreciated.
It was a great pleasure to meet our Year 7 parents on Monday at the parents’ information evening. It certainly felt that the school is getting back to normal as in the pre-Covid days. Parents were able to chat with their child’s form tutor and hear about school life and procedures. This helps us to work better in partnership. Parents were positive about the experiences of their children, but we recognise that there are still areas where the school could improve and we will try to act upon the comments and suggestions that were given to us.
This week students in Years 7-11 were given their Student Journal, which is essentially a homework diary, in which students are asked to record, in summary form, homework given by their teachers. We place a great store on homework, which allows consolidation of class learning and allows students to demonstrate what they have learnt. We ask that students carry their journal at all times in their inside blazer pocket. Parents are asked to sign the journal weekly. We have asked teachers to ensure that students are given sufficient time to complete their homework. It is very rare that teachers would want homework handed in the next day.
There was an excellent response to our ‘wear yellow’ day in support of the Young Minds’ Wellbeing Awareness day.
At the moment much of our attention is on preparing for our Prospective Parents’ Evening on Tuesday 12th October and the subsequent open days. I’m pleased that so many parents have booked to attend and delighted by the response of our student volunteers who are clearly so proud of our school.
