Students from all of KS3 came together over this week during one of their Jewish Studies lessons to experience a taste of the buzz of learning that will take place in Shuls across the world this Thursday night as part of the celebration of Shavuot, the Festival of the Giving of the Torah.

Half year groups gathered in the Shul here at JFS and learnt a variety of Jewish texts in an attempt to solve a dilemma in Jewish law. They worked in small groups, debating and analysing the sources, contemplating whether they can be applied to the dilemma and writing up their conclusions. Students then had the opportunity to share their interpretation with the other members of their year group and hear the way contemporary Rabbis have ruled in similar cases.
