Off to a Roaring Start!

Jewish life at JFS is off to a roaring start! We have welcomed in the new year with bumper attendance at the daily Shacharit Minyan (every day from 7.45 am in the Shul) where students of all ages enjoy davenning together. The Minyan is entirely student led, with opportunities available to help organise services, lead tefilot, and read from the Torah. It has been lovely to see students return and welcome the new cohort of Year 7s, and we are excited to watch the numbers grow and grow. Students also enjoy the delicious breakfast afterwards, with an offering of toast, spreads, a choice of cereals, fruit juice and chocolate milk.

We are delighted to have started the JFS Bet Midrash (JBM), a brand new, exciting and engaging learning programme tailored to deliver crucial literacy and textual analysis skills through a lens of Torah sources and traditional learning styles, including plenty of good-natured Jewish debating! Students have been engaging with sources ranging from Tanach to modern halachic authorities. Going forward, we will be learning topics relating to important values, mitzvot, daily life, and parts of the Jewish yearly cycle. We are sure that JBM will create a positive social and role model based, multi-year cohort, where students can meet others who share a similar love and interest in Torah learning. We look forward to all the Torah we will learn together!
