This week, the Sixth Form Study Room gave way to Sir Ed Davey MP, leader of the Lib Dems and Layla Moran MP, Lib Dem spokesperson for foreign affairs who came and addressed our Sixth form Politics students.
After a brief introduction about their route into Politics, both MPs came under rapid questioning from our students who asked insightful questions about the current Israel/Gaza conflict, anti-Semitism, the education system, the next election and even about Sir Ed’s early life. The MPs rose to the occasion and gave thoughtful and considered answers that the students remarked were, “brilliantly balanced”. There were several stand out moments but a highlight was from Layla Moran who was thanked by our students for being a, “Voice from the Palestinian side that we don’t get to hear otherwise. A Palestinian voice calling for peace and to live in harmony with Israel not at the expense or detriment of Israel.” Both MPs commented on the excellent calibre of questions and responses from our students.
It was a wonderful occasion and privilege to have attended, many thanks to all the staff and students involved and of course to Sir Ed and Layla for giving up their precious time.
