Y12 Biologists at the ICR

Our Year 12 Biologists had the pleasure of visiting the ICR (Institute of Cancer Research) at the Chelsea campus this week, courtesy of Rafi Berke (Year 12) who helped organise the trip. The ICR is one of the world’s most influential cancer research organisation and has state-of-the-art facilities in identifying cancer genes, discovering cancer drugs and developing precision Radiotherapy. The students first had a lecture on structural biology which introduced the topic of protein structure. They then followed the path of a protein production and analysis in various labs including protein production, purification and analysis while hearing from experts in the field. The students then got a demonstration of an electron microscope and all got to have a turn at viewing and focussing the lenses. Overall, the students thoroughly enjoyed their trip to the ICR and made JFS proud!
