Yom Iyun Challenge for KS3 Students

Yom Iyun Challenge for KS3 Students

The Jewish Studies Department ran a Yom Iyun (Deep-learning) programme this week for all KS3 students. Approximately 150 students came together per session working in small groups, analysing a selection of Jewish texts from the Talmud and its commentaries to resolve an ethical dilemma based on a scenario from an episode of Grey’s Anatomy.

There was a real buzz of lively debate in the Main Hall as the students grappled with the texts trying to apply them to the dilemma. Having completed this task, students spent the remainder of the session constructing an extended piece of writing which drew on the sources studied, to evaluate whether or not ‘My life takes priority over other people’s lives’. Students worked impressively throughout and were suitably rewarded with doughnuts and rugelach at the end of their session!
