Yom Iyun

Yom Iyun

Students in Years 7 and 8 took part in a Yom Iyun that was dedicated to the memory of a beloved teacher of Torah, Issy Reich a’h, sponsored by his family.

Rabbi Shimon Buckman, an alumnus of JFS and currently living in Leeds, prepared the learning material and lead one of the sessions. There was interactive learning in groups with a facilitator (from either the  Jewish Studies or JiEP departments), learning and discussing a dilemma using sources from the Talmud to resolve it and a final wrap-up and whole group discussion led by Rabbi Buckman. The second part of the morning involved pre-Chanukah activities and a competition, ably led by Mr Kaye.

Students had a very positive time and were able to delve more deeply into Jewish sources as well as engage in lively debate within their groups.
